I've only eaten dream food in normal dreams. In my experience, it tasted fairly normal. I'd guess that it was because that's what I expected it to taste like though.

I'd say that assuming the "what you expect is what you get" rule of lucid dreaming applies to food as well.

Well, Ben, excellent question!

I think that if your brain already knows what certain foods taste like, it's not likely that it will forget in the dream state, since you have complete access to the subconscious and to memories in dreams. Might just need a bit of practice to control it better, I suspect.

I wanted to add that I had similar experiences to those described. It was just like real food only better. I have not had enough experience with it though to know how it affects my cravings.

Apart from taste and food, I've also noticed how incredibly accurate smells can be. I once had an LD where I was at my uncles farm. Those smells come through just like in reality. The power of the brain to recreate these experiences never fails to amaze me!

What you wrote Lucid Dreamer reminds me of the times I hear a door creak in just the right way, and I am immediately brought back to the my grandparents country house on a farm, either coming or going, with the creaking sound of the door somewhere in the background, absorbed by my unconscious.
