3 Specific Things I Am Thankful For

1 Dec

At the risky of embarassing myself & making cheesy proclamations of thankfulness, here is my Thanksgiving-inspired list of 3 specific things I am thankful for.

1) Reality Check

I ordered my favorite sandwich at one of my favorite places to eat last week. When it came to my table though it was all messed up. The sauce was wrong, the amount of the ingredients was all messed up – in short, it was probably the worst falafel sandwich they’d ever made me.

Instead of being mad though, I tried to reverse and savor this moment and appreciate what I have. I thought about the fact that I live in a stable country with an economic infrastructure that supports having jobs and restaurants, and that I have $3 in my pocket which I can trade for a sandwich. This is something to be thankful for when so many, many people live in poverty (or in the middle of a war) and don’t have food or water, living off less than $1 US dollar a day, and their situation pretty much sucks.

I am thankful that I have food and the money to buy food.

2) I sold my condo!

I had pretty much given up hope that it was going to sell anytime soon (being that the US housing market is, oh I don’t know – in one of the worst downfalls ever!!) and was bracing myself to “mentally move back in” and stay for awhile.

And then it all happened in the blink of an eye: an offer was made, negotiations were settled, papers were signed, and the condo is out of my hair.

I am super grateful for this because it became a huge financial drain on my single funds, and inadvertently excerpted control and influence on all aspects of my life and future plans.

3) The backyard at my new house

I love where I’m staying now. There’s a big yard, trees, a stream, a pond, and lots of places where I can sit outside and read, write, and settle my thoughts. I am incredibly thankful for this and I am grateful that my friends have shared their home with me.   I appreciate it so much that I’m able to go outside with a book and enjoy the peace of the outdoors. Before living here I’d have to drive to a park to get this, and now it’s right in my back yard. I wish everyone could have their own slice of nature to enjoy.

I’ve lived here now for 2 weeks and everyday I feel this surge of thankfulness to be here.

. . .

I’d be curious to hear your answer to the same question. What are some things you feel thankful for in your life?

At Neomonde even a bad falafel sandwich is still a good thing.

Got my first condo two months ago, which is great. Ground floor with green grass, outside place so I can barbecue. Really grateful I got such a nice place to live.
