Can anyone confirm that there are male/female Calea Z plants, only one of which is good for lucid dreaming?

Northernstar recently left the following comment on Calea Zacatechichi: Smoking, Drinking, and Encapsulating the Dream Herb:

“There is something you are missing – just like Cannibas Sativa, Calea Z has a potent dark green female and a non-potent light green male.

I have had both – and some head shops sell pouches of the light green bunk kind.

Light green – tasted like rotting vomit, no real effect.

Dark green – tasted like rotting putrid vomit – slammed it all in one shot, tried not to vomit. The most intense, lucid, longest dreams I ever had!!!”

I’ve never heard this before and would like to open the question up to everyone.

Can anyone confirm that there are male/female Calea Z plants, only one of which is good for lucid dreaming?

After many unsuccessful experiments, I too have been considering the possibility that maybe I’m just getting bunk Calea Z. I don’t know about the male/female dynamic in this plant, but a 1986 study I read at http://leda.lycaeum.org/?ID=16295 suggests that there might be different varieties or subspecies:

“Further taxonomic work is required since our Chontal informant distinguishes between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ varieties according to their psychotropic properties…”

I buy from IAmShaman, who I trust for quality, but then again maybe one of these supposed “useless” varieties is in circulation?

That quote is pretty damning evidence that there are good and bad varieties. Nothing about it being tied to a male or female plant though. The question remains: how to tell?

Thanks a lot for this quote and the reference to this study. I have read it before but missed the bit about good and bad varieties.

Did you catch this hilarious snippet on the effects of Calea Z on cats?

“The cats stared for long periods of time and 30 min after the administration of the zacatechichi extracts somnolence and sleep were frequently observed.”

Maybe my cat is getting into my dream herb because that pretty much follows her routine everyday: sit around, stare at stuff, and sleep. 🙂
