“What if you had the chance to do anything you wanted? What if right now, you could levitate out of your chair, and soar out the window and up into the clouds, observing every creation of your mind? What if you could live your ultimate dream like getting together with that crush, or becoming an actor/actress? What if I were to tell you that there was a way to do this every single night for the rest of your life?”

- From the Introduction to Infinity

Fifteen minutes ago, for the first time, I loaded up DreamPort.net’s Infinity Software for Lucid Dreaming program.

First thought: “Holy shit – this is awesome!”

(And free, too! )

I was immediately impressed by the beautiful music and great design. (Keep in mind the last software I used for lucid dreaming was a very basic DOS program written maybe 10 or 15 years back! (Which by the way, did help me achieve a lucid dream nearly immediately.))

The basic idea is that you do something everyday, building each day from the day before, that will increase your chances of having a lucid dream. The software program is divided up by days, and you’re not supposed to get ahead of yourself, so all I know so far is that I’m doing reality tests starting today. I came up with what I hope is a pretty good one: every time I check my email (which, dear god, is like a million times a day), I will ask myself if I’m dreaming, look at my hands, study them, count each finger slowly, then vividly recall what I was doing two hours ago, and finally ask myself “Am I dreaming? Is this a dream?” yet again.

I’m pretty damn excited about this! I work best with structure and to-do lists, and Infinity seems based around this concept.

I’ll share my progress here as it comes.

Check out the DreamPort site for more info on Infinity and other ambitious projects they’re up to.

PS. One thing that struck me as odd is the suggestion in the introduction to cease masturbating while using this program, under the claim that “research has shown that masturbation can effect consciousness and recall when sleeping.”

Can anyone cite the source on this?
